3-Dimensional Mapping

Image
This map depicts the UWF Main Campus as aerial photographs draped over a LIDAR-based elevation surface. In this project, I learned how to create a 3D map using LIDAR data. I took a LIDAR dataset and converted it to a raster, which I then in turn set as the Elevation Source Layer. I also utilized building data to extrude the campus buildings to their appropriate heights within the map.

Georeferencing

This map depicts the main campus of the University of West Florida, including buildings, roads, and an eagle nest. In this project, I learned how to georeference. I was given road and building layers that were already properly georeferenced. Then, I added two aerial photographs and added control points matching the properly projected features with aspects of the photographs. I made an effort to keep my total RMS for each raster below 15. I also learned how to edit and add polygons; I added a building and road based on the aerial photographs. In addition, I created an inset that includes a multiple ring buffer demonstrating sensitive area around an eagle nest.

Geocoding

This map displays all schools in Manatee County, Florida, with data including their types, addresses, and contact information. It also includes legal boundaries and roads as reported by the US Census as of 2020. Data relating to schools was taken from the Florida Department of Education's website. Here, I learned how to add XY data to an ArcGIS Pro project and how to geocode. I started with entering simple data on eagle nest locations into an Excel sheet and importing that data to a small map to introduce myself to the process. Then, I moved onto more complex problem solving, as seen in the above map.  Map Link: https://pns.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=7133ef3a47734654962236f3bad24e90
